Before I even write the first sentence of a new book, there is a lot of preparation that happens behind the scenes. I wanted to share a little about how I get ready for a new story before it truly begins to take shape.
It usually starts with an idea that will not leave me alone. I sit with it for a while, letting it grow before I try to force it into anything. Once it feels strong enough, I begin jotting down notes, characters, and pieces of the world the story will live in.
I also spend time thinking about what I want readers to feel by the end of the book. That feeling becomes a kind of compass for me while I am writing, helping me stay true to the heart of the story even when the details are still unclear.
Getting ready for a new book is exciting, but it also comes with a little bit of nervous energy. Every story is a fresh start, and I never quite know exactly how it will turn out until I am in the middle of writing it.
