When people read a finished book, they usually only see the polished result, not everything that happened before it reached that point. I wanted to share a little bit about what actually goes into getting a book ready before it is published.
It starts with the first draft, which is usually far from perfect. After that comes multiple rounds of editing, where I go back through the story again and again, tightening scenes, fixing pacing, and making sure everything makes sense from start to finish.
Then there is the cover design, choosing something that reflects the feel of the story while also catching a reader's eye. It might seem like a small detail, but it takes real thought to get it right.
Formatting is another step that often goes unnoticed. Making sure the book looks right, whether someone is reading it as an ebook or a paperback, takes careful attention before it is ready to publish.
By the time a book is finally available on Amazon, it has already been through many hands, many drafts, and a lot of quiet, behind the scenes work. I hope sharing this gives you a little more appreciation for everything that goes into the books you read.
